Wimpy MP3 Player For Joomla

Installation is a two-phase process: Install (upload) and test Wimpy to ensure that Wimpy works properly on your server, then install the module through the Joomla installation interface.

IMPORTANT: There are many ways for Joomla to be installed and configured. Throughout these instructions we will refer to the place where Joomla is installed as the "Joomla folder" or visually as:

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/etc/etc

For some folks, there is no such thing as a "Joomla installation folder" because Joomla was set up to be the web site for the given domain name. Hence Joomla was installed at the "public root" (or "Web root"). Under this condition, the Joomla installation folder is "http://www.yoursite.com/".

1. Download the free demo.

Click here to download Wimpy (the PHP version)

- Unzip the Wimpy package.
- Create a new folder named "wimpy" within your joomla installation directory.

Example

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/

- Upload the Wimpy files to the newly created "wimpy" folder.
- Open a web browser and navigate to Wimpy on your site.

Example

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.php

If the example file is listed in the playlist, then Wimpy is working fine. Continue to the next step.

2. Use the Customizer tool to create a customized "myWimpy.html" file

- Click here to access the Customizer tool.
-
Upload the resulting "myWimpy.html" file to the Wimpy installation folder (i.e. the "Wimpy" folder that you created in Step 1).

3. Test Wimpy

Here we will test Wimpy the "myWimpy.html" page independently of your joomla web site to ensure that Wimpy displays properly.

Using a web browser, navigate to myWimpy.html on your web site.

Example:

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html

4. Download the Joomla MP3 Player Module:

Click here to download the Joomla Module.

5. Install the module.

Upload "mod_wimpy.zip" from the Joomla Admin as a "Module" on your server.

A. From the Joomla admin page's top navigation menu, click:

Installers > Modules

B. Click the "Browse" button to select the mod_wimpy.zip package file on your local PC to upload to Joomla.

C. Once the file has been uploaded, from the main menu click:

Modules > Sire Modules

D. (1) Click the checkbox next to "Wimpy" in the list.

(2) Next, click the "Publish" button to enable Wimpy.

NOTES:

Each time the player is loaded, the module extracts the HTML code to present the player from the "myWimpy.html" page located here:

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html

In order to edit the way Wimpy displays within your site, edit the HTML code on the myWimpy.html page. For example, If you want to re-size the player, you need to adjust the HTML code on the "myWimpy.html" page. We recommend USING THE CUSTOMIZER tool to make any edits to the HTML page.

If everything works out OK and you decide to purchase Wimpy, you will NOT have to go through the installation process again, you will only have to replace the Wimpy demo files with the non-demo files.

Troubleshooting

To place Wimpy and your mp3 file in a different folder, you will need to modify the "$wimpyHTML" variable in the "mod_wimpy.php."

When installing the module, you uploaded a "zip" file. Unzip the mod_wimpy.zip file and open the file named mod_wimpy.php in a text editor.

You will see the following line:

$wimpyHTML = $mainframe->getBasePath( 0, true )."wimpy/myWimpy.html";

By default, this line returns a "system path" to the myWimpy.html page, something similar to:

/home/www/public/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html

If you know the system path to the Joomla installation, you can simply enter it directly as:

$wimpyHTML = "/home/path/to/myWimpy.html";

If Wimpy appears, but all you see is the "W" Wimpy logo:

If the skin displays properly when accessing the myWimpy.html" file directly with a web browser, but not when loaded through Joomla:

When using the Customizer tool:

- All references to Wimpy files should be full URLs.  Be sure to use a full URL to the skin_name.xml file on your web site. Do not use a relative paths.

Good:
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/skin_name.xml

Bad:
.. /joomla/wimpy/skin_name.xml

- All files associated with Wimpy must be located on the same web site / domain / sub.domain. Do not reference a skin_file.xml that resides on another web site, or another sub.domain.com.

When referencing wimpy.swf, wimpy.php and any other reference to Wimpy-related files, be sure to use the same sub.domain.com "style" -- even when accessing or linking to the page that contains Wimpy.

For example, either always use www.domain.com or always use just domain.com, don't mix and match sub.domain.com references.

Example:

Good:
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.php
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.swf
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/skin_name.xml

Bad:
http://yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.php
http://yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.swf
http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/skin_name.xml

If Wimpy does not show up at all:

Could not locate:
/home/www/public/joomla/wimpy/myWimpy.html

Be sure to use the Customizer tool at wimpyplayer.com and upload the resulting "myWimpy.html" file to a folder named "wimpy" in your Joomla installation directory. Also, the HTML code that the Customizer tool outputs must not be altered, the file must be named "myWimpy.html" (case sensitive), and the file must be located here: $wimpyHTML

Double check your Joomla installation to see where certain files are located. Traditionally, "modules" are uploaded to the "modules" folder. For example, a typical Joomla installation folder looks similar to:

The Wimpy Module Installation instructions call for you to create a new folder within your Joomla folder called "wimpy" and this is where you should have installed wimpy.

Also, when using the Customizer tool at wimpyplayer.com, your should have referenced the wimpy files that reside in the "wimpy " folder within your Joomla installation folder:

http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/wimpy/wimpy.php
