Playlists within Playlists

A Wimpy XML playlist can list MP3, FLV, SWF files and XML playlist files. XML playlists that are listed within another playlist appear within Wimpy with a [ + ] symbol next to the playlist name -- just like a sub-folder would appear when running Wimpy of of wimpy.php. This feature of the Wimpy XML playlists, allows you to make a "master" playlist that contains a reference to any number of other playlists.

To include a playlist within a playlist, simply list the reference to the other playlist in the same manor that you reference an MP3 file.

Example:

Here is a reference to an MP3 file:

<playlist>
     <item>
          <filename>example.mp3</filename>
          <title>My Cool Tune</title>
     </item>
</playlist>

Here is how you would list a playlist within a playlist:

<playlist>
     <item>
           <filename>another_playlist.xml</filename>
          <title>My Other Playlist</title>
     </item>
</playlist>

You can mix and match references to MP3 files and XML playlists within a single XML playlist:

<playlist>
     <item>
           <filename>another_playlist.xml</filename>
          <title>My Other Playlist</title>
     </item>
     <item>
           <filename>example.mp3</filename>
          <title>My Cool Tune</title>
     </item>
</playlist>

NOTE: Wimpy will automatically display all XML playlist references at the top, followed by references to MP3 files. -- this helps keep the playlists separated from the playable tracks.

If you're using Playlister to generate XML playlists, you can easily include playlists into playlists by first uploading any playlists you already have to the same folder that contains wimpy.php. Then when you launch Playlister, the playlists that you've uploaded to your wimpy folder will display the XML playlists, you can add a playlist to the playlist you are working on the same way that you add an MP3 file to the playlist you are working on.
