Using a Registration File

A registration file provides a means to use your registration code without having to modify the HTML code within your web pages.

Simply drop the registration file (with a valid registration code in it) into the same folder as the SWF file and the player will be unlocked.

When using a registration file, you will not have to worry about including the registration code within the HTML code of your pages. Even if a valid (or invalid) registration code exists within the HTML code used to render the player. As long as a valid registration file exists, the player will be "unlocked".

Each product uses a unique file name for the registration file. The file name is based off of the main SWF file, plus "_reg.txt" and must be located in the same folder as the primary SWF file.

For example, with Wimpy MP3 Player, the registration file is named:

wimpy_reg.txt

... and must reside in the same folder was "wimpy.swf".

Product

Registration File

Available Since Version

Wimpy MP3 Player

wimpy_reg.txt

6.0.22

Rave

rave_reg.txt

2.0.11

Wasp

wasp_reg.txt

4.0.116

Wimpy Button

wimpy_button_reg.txt

4.1.3

If you decide to rename the primary SWF file, then the registration file must follow suit.

For example, if you decide to rename "wimpy.swf" to "player.swf" then the registration file must be named "player_reg.txt". The registration file's file name is case sensitive and must match the primary SWF's "base name" plus "_reg.txt".

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The registration code functionality has
only recently been available. Re-download
the latest version of the player to take
advantage of this new functionality.

See the chart below to see if you are using
version that supports this feature.

How to make a registration file

A registration file is a simple text file that contains a registration code.

After purchasing a license, you will receive a registration code via email. You can use the "lost registration code" to have the registration information sent to you again.

A registration code looks similar to:

MyU1RFZqYTdBYiU1QiU3RSUzQnolMkFsWVpyJTNCMSUyMyUyMjJKZmtWRFBNMmclMjN5VQ

Using a text editor, copy and paste the registration code into a new, blank text document. Then save the file using the appropriate naming convention as described above for your product.

We recommend using NotePad, or a very basic text, HTML or other code editor to create the txt file. Using a program such as Microsoft Word is NOT recommended because these programs include extra information within the document.

Each of the Wimpy product download packages contains a registration file. Upon opening the file with a text editor, you'll see "REPLACE_THIS_LINE_WITH_YOUR_REGISTRATION_CODE" within the file. In the example images to the right, you'll see how we replaced the line with a registration code.

Save the file and re-upload it to the same location as the primary wimpy files on your site.

Above is an example of what a registration file looks like using Windows XP and NotePad.

As you can see the text file contains the registration code, and nothing else. It's pretty simple really.
