Installing and Applying a Skin

1. Download and unzip the skin package

Once you've download a skin file to your local PC, unzip the skin package. After unzipping the skin, you should see an XML file.

Some skins use a background image (such as the "Blackpod" and iTunes" skins) but some skins do not use a background image.

Example:

The "Bop" skin does not include a background image, so the skin package only includes the following file:

skin_bop.xml

The "Blackpod" skin uses a background image, so the skin package includes the following files:

skin_blackpod.xml
skin_blackpod_bkgd.jpg

 

2. Upload the skin file(s) to your web site

We recommend uploading the skin file(s) to the "skins" folder within your Wimpy Installation folder.

Example:

http://www.yoursite.com/mp3s/skins/skin_name.xml
http://www.yoursite.com/mp3s/skins/skin_name_bkgd.jpg

... But you can upload the skin files to any directory on your web site -- putting the skin files into the "skins" folder just keeps things better organized.

 

3. Use the Customizer tool

Go to the Customizer tool at wimpyplayer.com

One part of the Customizer Tool's job is to set the proper width and height of the player to match the dimensions of the skin.

NOTE: By default, the Customizer tool is set up to automatically read the dimensions of your skin. You can turn off this option and set the dimensions manually by clicking the "Set size manually:" under the "HTML Display Options" area.

 

Enter the URL to the skin file on your web site into the "Wimpy Skin" field. Be sure to click the "test" link to the right of the field to ensure that the URL works. Also, the check box next to

When clicking the "test" link you should see something similar to:

... this is good because it is displaying the skin XML data. If you receive some kind of error, such as "Not Found" or "File Missing" or "Unable to locate X " then double check that you are entering the proper URL.

NOTE: If you are using FireFox, FireFox may display "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." -- This is not an error, but rather FireFox is only stating that there is not a style sheet associated with the XML file. Wimpy Skins do not require a style sheet, so disregard this message.

 

4. Save the HTML output from the Customizer tool

After you've set the remaining options in the Customizer tool, click the "Download" button. Doing so will prompt you to save a file named "myWimpy.html" to your local PC.

 

5. Upload the resulting "myWimpy.html" file to your web site

Upload the "myWimpy.html" file to any location on your web site.

 

6. Test

Using a web browser enter the URL to the myWimpy.html page that you just uploaded.
