Podcast Amp

Podcast Amp was developed basically for me... since I think a lot of the podcast software is kinda cumbersome, and a lot of Podcasts out there suck. I just wanted a way to check out some Podcasts and see what's out there before "subscribing" and downloading to my iPod.

During the process of porting Wimpy over to this Podcast Amp Player thing, i realized there are a zillion podcasts out there.

Granted, Podcast Amp is a little quirky, and not all Podcasts listed actually play... and some Podcasts sound like chipmunks (see Known Issues #1 -- there are a million ways to encode mp3 files, and Macromedia Flash -- doesn't do such a good job with some freakish encoding's)... anyway....

I decided to port Wimpy over so that i could check out Podcasts BEFORE i download them to my iPod.

Podcast Amp allows you to listen to Podcasts from your desktop, nothing fancy, but at least you don't have to install an "aggregator" then download the Podcast and then open the file in another program.

Podcast Amp plays the Podcast immediately so you can check out a Podcast before you decide to subscribe.

The player currently uses OPML lists in the library... and since the lists are maintained by others, some of the items may not display/play in the player properly... but there's a lot of stuff out there... give it a whirl, what the heck it's free.
